5 Ways to Celebrate Your Birthday All Month Long

It’s my birthdaaaaaay! ✨ Well, it’s my birthday month, but as the title says, here at The Small Adventurer, we celebrate our birthdays all. month. long.

How gorgeous are the sprinkles that Baking Time Club sent me?!

My boyfriend’s birthday was back in July, and on top of the things on this list, I also dedicated all my recipe and DIY projects to him for the entire month, because that’s my kind of love language (acts of service, that is – but let’s be real, I’m all about each one of the love languages!).

Daniel and I have both been through a lot in life, which is why we are so dedicated to always bringing joy to every single day, and doing things that makes us happy. And, when it’s our birthday months, we enhance our self-indulgence a LOT.

Please don’t think we’re greedy or pretentious people, because we’re not. Daniel is the most hard-working person I know, and I am very humble about all the good around me. Every single day I say to multiple people that I can’t believe how much my life has changed, and how I feel like the luckiest person in the world. I am nothing if not grateful to be in a much better place now!

We just believe in doing the things that bring us joy, because we deserve it – AS DO YOU! Which is exactly why I’m writing this post: to encourage you all to celebrate your birthdays all month long, too! Don’t you think you’re special enough that you deserve to celebrated for more than one day?! I sure do! Now, let’s move on to all the fun 🎉

I was NEVER a movie kind of gal before I met Daniel, and now it’s one of our favourite things to do. In 2016 alone, we saw 17 movies in the cinema. SEVENTEEN. That’s insane! We haven’t been to the movies as often as there hasn’t been that many good new releases over the last two years – apart from the Marvel movies, of course – so we’ve had a lot of movie nights at home.

Movie nights at home are an all-year-long occurrence for us, but when it’s one of our birthday months, that person gets to choose all the movies. We watched the Back to the Future trilogy for Daniel’s birthday month, and this month we are making our way through the four Shrek movies as per my choice, and then I’ll hopefully be able to make him The Secret Life of Pets with me. Again. 🙊 So, list some of your favourite movies, grab some snacks, and get watching!

Fool-Proof Ways to Bring Happiness Into Your Life

This year is probably the healthiest that Daniel and I have ever eaten, consistently. We both constantly have salad and vegetables for dinner, and snack on fruit throughout the day, but when it comes to our birthday month, all diets are out the window!

We both really love this specific sushi from our local supermarket, but we don’t get it all month long as it’s quite expensive, so we usually reserve it for our actual birthdays. But it doesn’t always have to be the expensive stuff! Simple things like picking up your favourite chocolate bar after work or ducking into McDonald’s when it’s 11pm and you’re too tired to cook dinner are great ways to make an ordinary day feel special – which is exactly how you SHOULD feel during your birthday month!

This is definitely more my thing than Daniel’s. In fact, when it’s Daniel’s birthday month we make a point to stay at home more, because that’s what he enjoys. If that’s your kind of thing, then by all means do that! For me, my birthday month is the month that I finally do the things that I’ve been wanting to do, but didn’t have a reason to do so.

This usually involves a trip to the city to drag Daniel to a couple art galleries or exhibitions and obscure food shops that are always impossible to find. This year I’ve got my eye on some Pokemon fairy floss at a cafe in Melbourne, and I’ll be damned if I don’t get my hands on it! Do some research and find out what’s going on in your city throughout your birthday month. You never know what new place or activity you might discover!

This is another thing that doesn’t quite work with Daniel as he NEVER WANTS ANYTHING, but it sure works for me! 😜 Spreading our your presents is a great way to make it feel like your birthday all throughout the month, as you have something new to open every few days or weeks.

We usually get a few little gifts for each other, and then one bigger, more expensive item, which is the one that gets saved for last. I’m also big on getting cards for all occasions, but they are to be saved for the actual day in my opinion!

Even MORE Ways to Celebrate Your Birthday All Month Long!

This is the first year I’ve really indulged in this particular option, and it has been quite nice. Little things like getting my favourite packet of biscuits to dunk in my hot chocolates, allowing myself to stay in bed a little longer when Daniel leaves early for uni, putting on a funny TV show when I’m working on a DIY project, and so on.

Self care looks different to all of us. Perhaps you want to read more often, or write, or binge watch something on Netflix. Whatever makes YOU happy, try extra hard to make time for it during your birthday month. Life can get even the strongest person down sometimes, and everyone one of us deserves to feel like royalty every now and then. This month is all about YOU!

I hope this post encourages you all to celebrate yourself a little bit more, and shows you that you don’t need to have a huge party or even leave the house to have fun. Life is all about how you see the things around you. Wishing you all a wonderful week! 💕

Until next time,
Indya xx

    • I don’t like getting older either, and there’s certainly a lot to be sad about around my birthday especially regarding family, but the good thing about being an adult is that you have so much more control over how you spend your time, and how you look at certain situations.

It hurts to see other people get spoiled by their mums for their birthday as I had a mother that was very manipulative and violent, and always put me second to everything – plus we didn’t always have a lot of money growing up – but now that I’m an adult I can make my own traditions!

Remember that you have more control over your life than you think you do. You can change so many things that you don’t like; you can edit your life until it becomes your masterpiece, even if that just means to change the way you look at things, rather than actually changing the things yourself. I hope you’ll try hard to have a positive birthday next time around and do whatever makes YOU happy, because you deserve it 💕

  2. Girl, There is nothing wrong with wanting to celebrate your birthday for the entire month! You do you, girl! It only happens once a year, so let’s make the entire month a little sweeter ❤️

  3. Happy Birthday!! I’m all about celebrating on more than just the day. My birthday usually falls around Easter so we’ve always celebrated it with family on Easter just to make things easier. Sometimes that’s a few weeks before, so I’m used to having my birthday celebrations kind of spread out! This year I turned 30 and threw a big birthday ball where we rented a room and had a DJ and everything. I know some people don’t like getting older but I’m excited to celebrate another year on this earth!

    • Thank you! Sounds like you had an awesome birthday this year. I’ve always thought hiring out a room with be awesome, but I just don’t like having parties or being around crowds of people so I know it wouldn’t really be my thing!
