DIY Brooklyn Nine Nine Christmas Ornaments

Brooklyn Nine Nine, you will forever be one of my all-time favourite TV shows. One of the BEST decisions I ever made was to randomly click on this show on Netflix one day.

Before I knew it, I had watched the entire first season. That was all that was on Netflix at that point, but I wanted more, so I started re-watching it immediately. I mean finished-the-last-episode-click-back-to-the-first-episode immediately.

Now I have watched every season more times than I can count, and I love them ALL. I was distraught when it was cancelled, and overjoyed when it was saved – but also not surprised at all, because this is show amazing and beloved, which is exactly why it was saved.

The Amy Santiago Reading Challenge: Every Book Mentioned in Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Anyway, you didn’t come here to hear me talk about my love for the show. You came here for these ornaments which – in case you haven’t figured it out by now – ARE a take on one of everyone’s favourite ongoing gags from the show: “Title of Your Sex Tape”.

I quickly realised when writing this post that it probably wouldn’t have been a good idea to have actually post those words in the title of this post, and boy am I glad I realised that BEFORE I hit publish πŸ˜… Anyway, enough talking, let’s get onto the project!

β™‘ White and black vinyl
β™‘ Transfer paper
β™‘ Cricut machine
β™‘ Scissors
β™‘ Pencil

1. Cut out three pieces of white vinyl that are 4.5cm wide, and 2.5cm tall. Peel off their backings, then carefully place them on the middle of your VHS ornaments where it says “Christmas movies/Cartoons”.

DIY Donut Christmas Tree Skirt (Super Easy!)

2. Open up Design Space, go to the text box function and select the font PingFang SC. Type the sentence “I’m sorry about tonight” – in all capitals – but hit enter halfway through so that there’s only two words on each line.

3. Click on the entire text box and go up to the top right so you can edit the width and height. First unlink the two, so that when you change the size of one, it won’t change the other. Make the width 1.7 inches, and the height 0.9 inches.

4. Copy and paste that text box, ensuring that your caps lock stays on. Change the text to say “What is taking so long?”, this time hitting enter after the word “taking”. Change the width once again to 1.7 inches, and the height to 0.9 inches.

5. Copy and paste that text box. Change the text to say “Hope it wasn’t a mistake”, and hit enter after “wasn’t” – once again, it all capitals. Make the width 1.7 inches and the height 0.9 inches one final time.

6. Cut out your text in black vinyl. Carefully peel away the excess vinyl, then use your transfer tape to move them onto your ornaments. You may want to play around with the placement of the sentences before you stick them down so that you know where to stick them so that they are centred.

Once they’re firmly pressed on the ornaments, you are done! You now have three ornaments that are super cool, cool, cool, cool, cool, cool 😜

Friends Storylines That Would Be A Lot Different in 2019

Whilst I know there are a LOT of other great – and probably much funnier – Title Of Your Sex Tape jokes to choose from, since I was working with pretty small ornaments, I had to go with some of the fairly small and quick ones, but I still love them SO much ☺️

It’s kind of funny to picture people coming over who haven’t seen Brooklyn Nine Nine (because SOMEHOW, apparently, a few of those people still exist?!) and wondering what the heck these ornaments are about πŸ˜‚ but it’s their fault for not watching a show that the rest of the world loves so much!

Before you go, let me know who your favourite Brooklyn Nine Nine character is! πŸ‘‡

Until next time,
Indya xx

  1. Lol Jake and Amy…but my faves are Capt. Holt and Boyle. I doubt if it’ll return (even though not cancelled), because of the “fun” police comedy plot, which is contrary to what really happens in America. Let’s see. I thought you’d have had bauble binders for Amy since she’s fanatical about binders πŸ˜‰

    • Season 8 is definitely coming in 2021, it’s just going to be quite different as they will be addressing more serious issues. The first four episodes that they were originally going to use were thrown out after George Floyd died. Since then, all the cast has been getting together with the writers and discussing how they are going to still make the show fun AND accurate to life in America. It will be interesting to see how different it’s going to be!

Haha, maybe I’ll make those next year!

  2. lovely addition to Christmas tree! I love funny pieces and always try to find a new addition to my own tree each year

  3. Oh noes! I might be one of the few (unfortunate) people who will have no idea about those ornaments about since I haven’t watched Brooklyn Nine Nine. But I’ll make sure to add it to my must-watch list. And nice and very interesting ornament idea you got here! πŸ™‚

    • Wow, now TWO commenters who don’t watch it?! 😯 I’m honestly so surprised, everything I come in contact with in my day-to-day life watches it! It is a great show. Very funny, but also very real too, and has great character development 😊

  4. These are so adorable! I love the idea of decorating your tree with a favourite show or movie. I have a mini tree in my home office, and everything about it is Nightmare Before Christmas themed. It makes me smile every time that I see it!

  5. After reading your post, I am now interested to watch this series. Also, thank you for the inspiration. I love the idea of creating ornaments based on my favorite series/ tv show. Very timely since I haven’t figured out yet what theme will we have this Christmas. Thank you for sharing this.
