Sailor Venus’ Compact Banana Flavoured Meringues

And just like that, it’s Sailor Venus’ birthday again! I can’t believe it’s already been a year since I made my gummy candy necklace as an homage to her iconic attack Venus Love-Me Chain.

This year, I decided to recreate one of her famous items as an edible treat: her compact! Well, more accurately, Minako’s compact, which enables her to transform into Sailor Venus ☺️

Even though I’ve really jumped on the jello** train this year, I tried my best to make something that WASN’T jello-related for this recipe and, even though I had a seizure literally the morning of making these meringues, I still managed to get them done and I am super happy about that! πŸ™Œ

(Although I wanted to get these posted YESTERDAY, as that was the 22nd for us over here in Australia – and that is her actual birthday – but my laptop decided to stop working! So I had to buy a new one, and here we are πŸ˜…)

Sailor Scout Minimalistic Character Jelly/Jello Cups

After conducting many polls on InstagramΒ about what I should make for International Sailor Moon Day (which was actually yesterday, on the 6th, but sometimes life just gets in the way of things), I finallyΒ ended up making more of what’s becoming my signature recipe: minimalistic jelly cups!

I honestly thought you’d all be getting sick of seeing of my character jelly cups, but after the recipe poll stayed a three-way tie for 20+ hours, I decided to buy the ingredients to make the jelly cups for a few reasons.

Reason #1: I was going to make jelly cups this month anyway, so why not kill two birds with one stone? #2: I had less than a week to make this recipe, and I didn’t trust my ability to make macarons that didn’t crack (which was one of the other options) in such a short amount of time, and #3: the third option was cookies, and I realised I’ve already made Sailor Moon cookiesΒ to celebrate this occasion.

Of course, once the ingredients were already bought, macarons ended up winning the poll. So, I will try my hardest to share a macaron recipe on the blog (as the only time I’ve talked about macarons on here was over two years ago, when I decorated some white macarons to look like disco balls).

Alternatively, I made a DIYΒ poll as well, in which collar clips won by a mile (beating out earrings and paper weights, although they also got quite a few votes each too!), which I LOVE, so I’ll try to make a tutorial for them happen soon as well, once I think of a design, that’s all πŸ˜… Now, onto my latest jelly creations: the inner Sailor Scouts – plus Chibi Moon, because I love all that pink πŸ’–Read More »

Red, Gold and Purple: Three-Tiered Sailor Mars Cake

I’ve been going back and forth on whether or not to post this cake on here as this is the first cake I’ve iced with buttercream in a yearΒ – and it showssince I recreated Squidward’s Bold and Brash painting in cake form back in May 2019. However, after sharing a little boomerang of it on my Instagram Stories and getting some lovely feedback from my best friend, I decided to go ahead and share it. ☺️

After all, I’ve made a recipe for every other inner Sailor Scout before (although I wasn’t happy enough with Sailor Mercury’s cake to give it its own post, so I put the photos of it inside my post 5 Ways to Celebrate Your Birthday All Month Long – which became my most popular post of ALL TIME! Its views are almost DOUBLE my next most popular post. Ironic that I tried to hide the photos, isn’t it?). Considering Sailor Mars has always been my favourite, it’s about time she got her own too!

I have plans to make much more intricate and detailed recipes based off the Sailor Scouts’ attack names in the future, recipes that aren’t just cakes decorated in the colours that they wear. But for today, that’s pretty much what this cake is: something simple to help ease me back into baking, as my epilepsy is in another bad stage.

This cake has Mars’ two main colours: red and purple. The cake on the inside is red, as is the chocolate shoe on top. I also made a mini red Rice Krispies treat that I then cut out with a lips-shape cookie cutter, and was going to add that to the top of the cake too, but it ended up looking really out of place, so I left it off.

I do wish that the purple chocolate pieces that I added on top had matched the buttercream better, but I did used a different food colour – one that was made for chocolate, obviously –Β so I didn’t expect them to come out completely identical. I did also use chocolate melts instead of cooking chocolate, which may have affected the outcome.

I chose to cover the outside of the cake in gold star sprinkles as when Sailor Mars “upgrades” to Super Sailor Mars, her choker gets a gold star on it – plus, the more sprinkles I added, the less smooth the icing had to be. So, win-in πŸ˜‰ Anyway, let’s get onto the recipe!Read More »
